Elections Suspended – watch for updates
April 25, 2012 Press Release
To the Métis people of Saskatchewan,
It is with regret that I must inform the public that the upcoming May 30 MN-S election must be suspended. An application was made before the Court of Queen’s Bench for confirmation that the election date was properly set. The Court made its determination on procedural grounds that no other parties were served with the application. At present, the only manner in which this problem can be resolved is to suspend the election, call a Provincial Métis Council meeting to set a date for a Métis Nation Legislative Assembly who in turn will restart the election process. I remain committed to this organization and the people we serve.
Moving forward, I humbly ask the Provincial Métis Council members to attend the next PMC meeting to set a date for the Métis Nation Legislative Assembly. Secondly the MNLA will confirm a date for an election and the hiring of a Chief Electoral Officer. As PMC members, Local Presidents, Senators, Elders and Citizens we need to pull together as a Nation. It has been our honour and privilege to work hard on behalf of you and your families. God willing, the forward momentum Métis Nation – Saskatchewan currently enjoys will continue over the next four years with the goals of a stable Métis government and continuing efforts to raise the standard of living for all Métis citizens.
God Bless you and Your Family
Robert Doucette, President, Métis Nation – Saskatchewan
